Quilt Prep

Besides your tender loving care during the piecing process, Quilt Prep is the second biggest factor in the outcome of the final product. Especially if you're not familiar with the longarming process, there can be a few differences that you want to be aware of before I have your top in-hand.

TL;DR: The Biggies

8" Extra

I need 8" extra width and height to your backing compared to the quilt top for loading and tension testing.

Press It Real Good

Press, press, press your final quilt top before you gently fold it to deliver to me. Often quilters forget the very last, big seam.

Snip, Snip

Optional but recommended if it'll bother you - Trim extra shaggy threads, especially if they're dark and you have a light backing.
Think dark bra, white shirt.

Let's get into it.

I'd love to take some time and go through some of the finer details and the reasoning with you for quilt prep and some of the questions I get as a longarmer. I was raised by teachers, and to this day I love understanding why something is the way it is and sharing that information to enable others.

So, here goes. Pull up a chair, sharpen your pencil any pay attention, class is beginning.
